The Gift of Presence

To my folks based in the United States, Happy Thanksgiving! To all the rest, Happy Thursday! :)

This will be short, but I wanted to express my thanks. For one, I’m thankful for all of you! I’m thankful for health and knowledge, growth and learning, friendship and love, and so many other things it makes my heart smile just to contemplate.

In thankfulness, there is mindfulness. Remember why we celebrate this holiday. Gala of GalaDarling.com makes an excellent point of this today, and I recommend fully reading her post and checking out her linked articles. History can be shocking, but the sacrifices of others are a waste if we don’t learn from them.

The biggest gift that you can give, both today and over the holidays, is the gift of presence. When you spend time with your loved ones this holiday season, be fully present (link and inspiration by Leo Babauta). Turn off the smartphone, ignore Twitter for an hour or two (I know, right??), and be fully THERE. It’s a serious stress relief, and aids in opening you up to the joys the world is going to throw your way.

Giving love, thanks, and awareness,

  • It’s sad that we have to remind ourselves of this, but it’s also refreshing and hopeful to see that I’m not the only one that feels this way about family and friends. Have a happy holiday season <3
